[ WHAT IS AAU ]

Four things that define the AAU experience.

Two streams.
One STANDARD.

Tournament-first

The AAU calendar is built around competition. Training is preparation. Games are the point.

Selection-based

Teams are 10 players, chosen from Elite squads by coaches. Fewer players, more court time, higher stakes.

Coach-led travel

Home tournaments, interstate tournaments, weekend-long formats. Coaches manage the logistics, families come along for the ride.

The full pathway

AAU is the top of the Free Flow pathway. This is where players are seen — by rep coaches, state selectors, and the game itself.

[ THE SCHEDULE ]

Where AAU takes us.

AAU fees, broken down.

AAU pricing varies per tournament and per squad. Every fee we quote includes two things:

Free Flow

Game coaching

Coaches on the sideline every game. Pre-tournament scouting, in-game adjustments, post-game debriefs. The coaching doesn't stop when the ref blows the whistle.

AAU

Tournament entry fees, official team registration, uniforms and match jerseys where required. Everything the team needs to be on the floor.

What's not included:

Individual travel, accommodation, meals, and personal equipment are separate. We publish the full breakdown per tournament in the info pack sent after enquiry.

Intense Free Flow Basketball huddle engaging all the players and the three free flow coaches.

[ COMMON QUESTIONS ]

Questions parents actually ask.

How does AAU selection work?

No tryouts. There are two paths in: invitation — coaches observe players in Academy and identify who's ready — and inquiry — players outside Free Flow reach out, we set up an Academy session or open run to see you play. Same standard either way, no closed door.

Does my child need to be in Elite first?

Yes. AAU teams are drawn from active Elite squad members — no exceptions. If they're not in Elite yet, submit an Elite enquiry first and start the pathway.

How many tournaments do AAU squads play per season?

Depends on the age group and the season calendar. Most squads play 3–5 tournaments, mixing NSW-based and interstate.

What are the additional AAU costs if my kid is selected?

Every tournament fee we quote covers game coaching and team registration. Individual travel, accommodation, meals, and personal equipment are separate. The full breakdown per tournament is in the info pack.

What if my kid is invited but isn't sure they're ready?

Every invitation includes a trial period. New players come in, train with the squad, and either everyone confirms it's a fit — or we have an honest conversation about timing. No pressure to commit before everyone's confident.

Is Roots okay for total beginners?
